Good morning, friends.
Our verse for today comes from Acts 9:29, “And he spoke and disputed against the Hellenists. But they were seeking to kill him.”
While we were on vacation, I happened to be watching tv, ignoring the same commercials that had been repeatedly trying to sell me something every eight minutes. This time, however, I zoned in enough to read the small print on the screen of the ad for some kind of medicine. I don’t know for sure what the pill was for, but what I read mentioned that it was for those who were assigned as females at birth. And though I know I shouldn’t have been, I was shocked that this pharmaceutical company had adopted the attitude that one’s gender is essentially something of choice. For we now have cisgender women, which are those who were assigned as females at birth and through self-concept and socialization, identify themselves as female. Basically, they are the ones that agree with how God made them. Whew, I’m sure God is so relieved to get some affirmation.
You are no doubt familiar with the bill called the Equality Act. At its worst, it is described as the doorway to legalizing pedophilia. For if the age of consent becomes irrelevant, what will prevent a child from identifying his gender as he/she feels and choosing to be with a willing adult? Rest assured, there are lawyers ready and willing to defend this “right.” I have said this before, but I am amazed when I consider the Egyptian leaders weighing their options on how to best deal with the growing number of Israelite slaves in the beginning of Exodus. At some point, someone suggests having the babies killed by the midwives. Who is in that room that jumps up and says, “Yea, that makes sense!”? Not only that, they later agree that the better plan is to take the newborn males and throw them in the river. That is what the rulers deemed as good and acceptable.
For America in 2020, things are heading the wrong direction. For Saul, he wanted to debate and convince, but they wanted only to kill him. We’ve known times when killing for no reason was acceptable. But now, the spiral is going down much further. And what’s next gets more unnatural and twisted. Some say we need to elect better leaders, some say our days as a nation are numbered. Most of us would say we need to pray and proclaim the truth whenever we can. We have a God who hears and He is perfectly able. Is there anything in us compelling us to plead for His transforming grace and mercy?
As we seek Him today, hold God’s standards high as you lovingly present a life seeking holiness and purity.
Have a wonderful weekend.
