Good morning, everyone.
Our verse for today comes from Acts 10:37, “You yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed.”
Every weekend morning, I started my day the same way. I would lie on the carpet in the front hallway with my knees folded up under my chest, soaking in the warmth of the beams of sunlight that shone through the glass of our front storm door. Spread out in front of me was the sports page of the newspaper, and between us was my bowl of cereal. As I analyzed every number and read every letter, even before I turned on Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, I discovered the highlights and lowlights of what happened the night before in all the games I wished I could have been at. Sometimes I knew the outcomes from having watched the news on television before I went to bed, but now was the time when I could lap up the details and find out exactly who did what. Today, of course, few are the houses with a newspaper waiting in the driveway as the sun comes up. The internet replaced that archaic form of reporting with real-time stories and live updates from journalists with international access, then went even further and took us to every event where someone had a phone with a camera in it. Now, in some instances, we’re even getting news stories of things that haven’t happened yet and in fact did not ever happen. But despite the varying degrees of reliability and authenticity, there is no limit to the information at our fingertips. The world of sports is not bound by four pages of newsprint every morning. We have every availability to know what happened in any corner of our planet and beyond.
Likewise, we know full well what happened in Judea 2,000 years ago. And, we know what it means and what effects it has had on our own lives. The problem with some of us is, much of that has become old news. The highlights are behind us, and there is nothing going on for anyone to hear about. Some things can be easily rectified with a change of habit or a renewed focus. But others will require some serious time with your knees tucked up under your chest and your face bowed down before the beams of the Son. The question is whether you will start your days anew, perhaps like you used to? Will you allow what you know has happened to do what you know it should?
As we seek Him today, learn something old again, and let it have a brand new effect on your walk with Christ.
