Good morning, friends.

Our verse for today comes from Acts 1:19, “And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.”

Do you know something well enough to call it your field of expertise? To be called an expert by definition, one should possess comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of or skill in a particular area. I’m pretty sure I do not have a field of expertise. What I do have, though, is a field of vision. I just have to open my eyes and there it is. But last night, as my contact lens was killing me, I was reminded once again how naturally poor that field is without an artificial aid. As my daughter drove us home, I had one contact in and one out. And when I looked only with the eye without a contact, I could detect absolutely nothing outside the car. Signs, buildings, cars, it didn’t matter. Nothing was there. All I could see was the glow of light of oncoming cars or street lights. Mine would be more accurately called a field of non-vision. Another field with an unconventional name was the Field of Blood. As if being the place where Judas committed suicide wasn’t bad enough, there his body was impaled and his blood and bowels came gushing out to give this infamous piece of land its nickname.

Fortunately for us, the blood that was shed by Jesus a few hours later not far from this field is not known for the naming of a field, but for its redeeming work of saving us from our sins and delivering us from an eternity in hell separated from God. And now, a whole new field is before us, one that could be appropriately called a mission field. It looks uniquely different for each of us, just as my unaided vision looks as compared to yours. But how we walk it and what we do with it may very well impact how it is referred to in years to come. Working that field may not be your area of expertise. But many hands make light work, and your efforts while trusting in the Lord of the harvest can do greater things than He did as we deliver our wills up to the Holy Spirit. So don’t let them be just a field of dreams or become a field of remorse. Make them to be fields of the kingdom of God.

As we seek Him today, open your eyes to the fields you travel and see what is all around you.

Have a terrific Thursday.
