Good morning, friends.
Our verse for today comes from Acts 9:34, “And Peter said to him, ‘Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.’ And immediately he rose.”
My son and his new bride are so much fun to be around. The ways in which they interact with one another are refreshing and quite entertaining. Recently, he was at work doing some welding and had rigged up a work area for the different parts he had to weld. As he moved to the other side to sit down, he somehow sat on the very edge and immediately went falling backwards, followed by the plywood landing on him, his welding helmet snapping down to put him in total darkness, and the welding gun being yanked from his hand. As he described being turned upside down in total darkness and confusion, his wife could not stop laughing at his condition (assured that he was unhurt, of course). For ten minutes, she cackled and cackled. But there are other times, like when he asks her to help him all day at the shop on a Saturday, or when he asks her to make repeated trips to the truck to get him a tool, when she’s not laughing. And, there are countless times when he prepares her food for her, or drives her where she needs to go and waits for her, or plans an impromptu trip for the two of them for the day. He entertains, he protects, he frustrates, he provides, he cherishes and so much more.
Your relationship with Jesus is likely to have many facets. For Aeneas, Jesus began as a miraculous healer. But then what? Did He also become a Savior? And then, was He a Comforter, a Provider, a Listener? Did He bring joy, peace and restoration? Did Aeneas lean on Him during times of hardship and struggle? Did he trust Him when he wrestled with doubt, fear, and uncertainty? Did he get frustrated when he had to wait on Jesus? Did he share his relationship with Him with other believers, encouraging them and enjoying fellowship? Was he moved to serve and sacrifice, surrendering his hold on his possessions to bless others as a blessing from God? You see, following Jesus is much more than being someplace Sunday mornings and reading a chapter every day. It’s more than asking for forgiveness one time and getting dunked in water. It’s probably more than whatever you have now or think it could be, because He’s an infinite God. Try to experience some more of Him today.
As we seek Him today, examine your relationship with the Eternal King, and see if it’s where it should be.
