Good morning, everyone.
Our verse for today comes from Acts 10:21, “And Peter went down to the men and said, ‘I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?’”
In the movie Shadowlands, there is a scene where C.S. Lewis meets his future wife, Joy, for the first time. Having corresponded with her by letter for a while, Jack and his brother agree to meet with Joy for tea during her visit to Oxford from America. As the brothers await her arrival in the quiet restaurant, they make guesses as to which of the women entering the dining room might be Joy, since they do not know what she looks like. Eventually Joy arrives and, getting no help from the hostess as to which one of the patrons might be Jack, she steps up and calls out in her brash New York tone, “Anyone here called Lewis?” Stunned and embarrassed, Jack sheepishly raises his hand from his seat in the corner and signals for Joy to come over. As they exchange pleasantries, Jack alludes to the uncomfortable scene he just endured as the full room of guests were jarred from their quiet existence and made to become part of his. He explains that here, he is not really a public figure, a fact that Joy is unable to comprehend. She says, “So you write all these books and give all those talks and everything, just so people will leave you alone?” Yes, despite Lewis’ life of seclusion and academia, where he was not inclined to step out and make known his presence or even existence, he was much more of a public figure than he chose to believe.
God in heaven, who knew you from eternity past, chose you from among the lost and condemned to be His child. And as such, you are going to have moments and times when you are the very one that another is looking for. You will be the one that God has sent another to. Regardless of your place in life or your relation with an existent or non-existent spotlight, you are being or will be called on to be the one that someone is looking for. The Holy Spirit in you is intended to show Himself for the life of another. You are not to quench the Spirit or keep Him under a basket. He is to be out front with you, not tucked away as some secret friend or kept under wraps as a part of you that you let on to at some later time. God found you, so who else is looking for you?
As we seek Him today, be available to whoever is looking for you.
