Good morning, everyone.

Our verse for today comes from Acts 2:17, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.”

I woke up this morning in the midst of two uncommon phenomena – I had forgotten to set my alarm, and I could vividly remember part of my dream. The alarm annoyance clearly got my day started later than I had planned, and the dream was short, but vivid. In it, I had resolved to drink some sort of concoction that would end my life, although the reasons were unclear. It wasn’t going to be painful or immediate, but death was imminent and unavoidable. But what was unforgettable from this scene was the acute awareness that my eternal destiny was about to unfold, and it hung completely on the validity of the saving work of Jesus Christ. I can still feel the weightiness of that swallow of liquid as I sealed my fate, knowing that what I believed was about to be shown for what it is. Now, much of this dream was no doubt planted in my mind by the movie we had watched last night of a superhero whose powers and culture, though for good, were quite pagan and mystical at best. But regardless of the impetus, the impression from a dream remains of a man tasting the reality and convergence of humanity and eternity.

Our verse from Acts would indicate that my dream merely proves that I’m old, and I’m certainly much more old than young in many ways. But for those of us who will live out the years of their life, there comes a point where the end is not only much closer than the beginning, but it is real and foreseeable. And along with that condition comes the consideration of what has passed and what will determine your future forever. To have the Holy Spirit within and an abiding relationship with Jesus throughout, the believer’s position before God is not only secure, it’s reassuring. And when we misstep or fail miserably, we feel the effects in a real way, the way it impacts a real relationship. But everyday here is another day lived out in the presence of Greatness, where He is with is, even as He waits for us.

As we seek Him today, consider the reality of meeting your King, and let that direct your dreams.

Have a delightful Thursday.
