Good morning, friends.
Our verse for today comes from Acts 2:13, “Others mocking said, ‘They are full of new wine.’”
It must be one of the laws of physics, or of nature, or thermodynamics, or something, that no matter what happens or what is said, someone will have an opposing view from what others think. It doesn’t seem to matter how good or how sincere or how blatantly obvious it is, someone will come along and be the skeptic. And the extreme situation, of course, occurs in the world of politics. How can everything said or done by a person or a group of people universally be dismissed by another group of people, without fail? Every motive is questioned and every act deemed a mistake. On talk shows of all kinds, whether news, sports, or whatever, one simple topic generates a world of difference from two seemingly informed and intelligent people, making it seem highly likely that their difference of opinion is calculated and artificial, all for the sake of provoking debate and ratings. But in the real world, the naysayers are real, and they are everywhere. Perhaps you are one of them. Perhaps the events of the day and the happenings in your life are met with cynicism and second guessing. Maybe you suspect the intent behind the words or see facial expressions a little differently than others. If so, then you know what that’s like. You know how it makes you feel throughout the day. But do you know enough?
Do you know how it sounds to the others around you? Do you know how it affects the ones who hear your dismay and suspicion? Do you truly know what the mistrust and the reticence is doing to your spirit, the spirit from Christ that was once full of hope, care, love, and encouragement? Do you believe that your heart is as your Savior wants it to be? Is it the vessel of charity and goodness that He died to give to you? If any of this rings true for you, it may be worth another look. It’s good to want to be sure and not fall prey to deceit, but God’s love within you should keep you sounding and acting like His child.
As we seek Him today, ask God to address the skeptic in you and make you see things in a different light.
Have a sweet Thursday.
